founder and original emcee of the Philadelphia Folk
Festival. Gene has been deemed "The dean of
American folk DJs" by The Philadelphia Daily

Music" by The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Wednesday and Saturday 5-7pm ET on the Folk Alley stream. And 8-11pm

The Philadelphia Folksong Society
Unique among cultural organization, the Philadelphia Folksong Society
is an educational group dedicated to the enjoyment of folk music and
culture. For the past 50 years, PFS has encouraged the growth of folk
music through concerts, workshops, sings, and festivals. The Philadelphia
Folksong Society is nationally known for its signature event, the Philadelphia
Folk Festival, held each August at the Old Pool Farm in Schwenksville, PA.

This
year marks the 46th anniversary of the Philadelphia Folk
Festival. The Folk Festival is one of the nation's oldest and most revered
musical gatherings and
it will be held one week earlier then in previous years - on the 3rd
weekend in August. The Festival is hosted by Gene Shay and is a three-day
extravaganza of traditional and contemporary folk performers, dance,
crafts, camping, and children's activities. |
