Melody Gardot lands effortlessly
in a genre that is neither all jazz nor all blues,
but rather a charming tincture of the two. Striking
and velvety-soft vocals, pleadingly tug at your
heartstrings with every vocal phrase as they speak
of pain, sadness, inspiring joy, lasting hope
and a lifetime of reflection. Lemons and all,
she presses on-And though it is only her first
step into the music scene, it is undoubtedly one
of great poise and stoical grace. With one toe
dipped in the giant industry pool, she is already
making waves.

While Matt Duke prides himself
on being an avid lover of all music, it was not
until he was introduced to artists such as Van
Morrison, The Band, Ani DiFranco, Tool, and Damien
Rice that he was able to determine what he wanted
his own music to become. Impressed by their poignant
lyrics and musical ambition, Duke quickly developed
a style that incorporated these ideals a long
with his own personal flare. By the winter of
2004, he recorded his first demo, which found
its way to MAD Dragon Records. Impressed with
his raw talent, the label decided to include Duke
on their "XYX" compilation.

There is a place within modern music where
a foundation of rock-solid songwriting can be
married to progressive Technicolor production,
resulting in both satisfaction for the soul and
brilliant sonic candy for the ears. Like
A Fox have crafted a debut batch of songs
that deliver on that promising union. Forming
in 2005 with members from the popular Philly Local
bands, Lenola and Grand Fabric, the band decided
to come together and work on new compositions
that pushed harder into some of the Electronic-meets-Rock
directions that latter period Lenola had only
hinted at.

indefinable sound. The Dave Quicks Band performed

The Fractals are anything
but new to the Philadelphia music scene. Members
Kevin Hanson (guitar, vocals), Jim Stager (bass,
vocals), and Erik Johnson (drums, vocals) have
been together since the 90's, when their band,
Huffamoose, was hitting the airwaves and gaining
momentum. The Fractals are part of the Philadelphia
music elite who aren't just influencing bands
today, but who will continue to influence bands
tomorrow. The Fractals joined us this year at
WXPN's All About the Music Festival.

The Brakes combine influences
young and old; such as Traffic, Joni Mitchell,
Stevie Wonder with The Black Crowes and Jamiroquai
to create a new hybrid that combines a strong
rock & roll influence with a fresh neo-soul sensibility.
Formed in Philadelphia area in 2001 by a group
of talented young musicians, The Brakes have quickly
grown from a local favorite to a touring rock
band. The band has worked hard to develop their
loyal hometown following while hustling to do
the same in other markets.
